5.0 out of 5 stars. Geat pants for the price!

These pants work! The retail price is insane, but the STP price was way more than fair. When I first saw them I thought they were going to be too small. I'm 5'8', and about 210 so getting clothing to fit is not always easy. Usually the legs are way too long in something that will fit my waste. So I was surprised when the Large/Short fit perfectly. The stretchy material not only made for a perfect fit, it also made for movement without restriction. I've used them four times while cross country skiing in the last week, and half a dozen times hiking and working in the Badlands, and tried them on over both alpine ski boots and heavy mountaineering boots. They are held in place by the sticky built in gaiter on all boots. There are two small loops on the bottom of each leg, presumably for tying them down, but I don't think they're necessary. I've used them while it is snowing, but not when raining so I ran water over them in the sink. Every thing just sloughed off. The material feels tough, but is soft and comfortable. I've had no chaffing issues. I'll try them on rock and ice this winter. About the only thing I would change would be the addition of a couple of cargo pockets. All in all, a great product I am only able to afford because of Sierra Trading Post.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Haven't had then wet yet but love the fit

I didn't buy these to use for snow but more for rain. I normally wear a 31-30 in jeans... I got medium waist and reg length....I was nervous about buying pants on line... I tried them on... Fit like a glove! I was totally surprised. Seems like a tremendous value compared to the MSRP. I love the way they look... But I will say they fit a little too tight if you plan to wear thick layers under them... Thermal base layer is about all the space you have...I don't plan to do that often, so I'm pleased. I would give them 5 stars but I haven't got them wet yet.... As long as I stay dry.. they get a 5
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Interesting product

Have not yet had a chance to test in the wild but first impressions are good. Lightweight and clearly well made, hoping I will never have to test the RECCO® avalanche transponder, but an interesting feature to include; was not aware of its inclusion when I ordered the pants. Was expecting some insulation layer but none present; guess I'll just have to figure the right level of fleece in an Under Armor base layer to compensate. Not a difficult problem to solve.
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Not really ski pants

The quality was very good but they ran tight in the seat. Only room for thin base layer so insulation would be minimal. Probably better for climbing. I sent them back. Order a size up if you layer.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Nice Snow Pants

Bought as a light weight snow pant for Backcountry Skiing. Should work great for hiking. Sizing a bit tighter than I care for. Normally a 34 waist and got mediums, had to exchange for large.

About Mountain Hardwear

Starting back in 1993, a small group of outdoor industry mavericks broke away from the pack to follow a less-traveled path. From the very beginning, the primary goal of Mountain Hardwear was to create an outdoor gear brand with a sharp focus on technology-driven design, superior performance and hardcore reliability. The result of this function-first mentality has been an array of incredible Mountain Hardwear jackets, clothing, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and accessories. Today, after more than two decades of industry-leading innovation, Mountain Hardwear continues to set new benchmarks for dependability in the toughest conditions on the planet.
