5.0 out of 5 stars. Really nice...

Very nice jacket and I have to agree that it might run a little on the small size. I'm 5'11" and 170lbs and purchased a XL and it fits just right and if I had to layer I could. I wore it for the first time today,1/5/19 in rainy but mild temperature 40 degree weather in Connecticut. Water did bead up but it wasn't raining that hard. The material "Polartec" is also in the Outdoor Research Ascendant Nimbus jacket and I liked that jacket so much until I purchased another one in a different color. I have worn the Ascendant Nimbus in colder weather and although the "Polartec" material in the Ascendant appears to be less than in the Alpenice it reassures me that the Alpenice will perform good in colder weather. I'm happy!

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. All About Breathability

Very nice...light weight and super breathable. I have never owned any type of insulation that breathes like Polartec Alpha does. Great for cold weather high output activities. At this price it is a no brainer. Not sure about it's long term durability, but we'll see. I am 5'9" 170 and bought the XL which fits nicely.

Really a nice well made jacket but it runs small. I'm 6' 200lbs and normally wear a large but some comments made in reviews convinced me to get a XL and I'm glad I did since it just fits. I will wear it more in the spring & fall before the real cold weather sets in.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Great Jacket

These coats are great at reducing bulk and the need for layering up. Don’t be fooled if you buy one of these and it appears not as thickly insulated as other typical cool weather gear.
I have worn this jacket in 26 degree weather with
Only a long sleeve smartwool 250 midweight shirt underneath. It kept me warm and comfortable. This type of insulation is designed to be most effective while your ,”active”. It seems to trap body heat while allowing moisture to escape. I usually wear a large but based on the reviews I went up one size (xl) ,and it fit perfectly. I gave 4 stars because I feel the sizing is off but the performance is definitely 5 stars.

Nice light weight jacket. Size large fits like a medium.

About Outdoor Research

The concept for Outdoor Research was devised in 1981 when climber Ron Gregg’s planned ascent of Denali was cut short, ending prematurely with his frostbitten partner being airlifted off a glacier. The cause was a faulty pair of gaiters. During his descent, Gregg resolved himself to create better gear, a resolution that soon led him to build the first pair of award-winning Outdoor Research gaiters. The concept was simple: Make outdoor apparel and gear with a clear focus on reliability. In the many years since, this brand has continued to blaze new trails with cutting-edge products that now include Outdoor Research gloves, jackets, backpacks and Outdoor Research hats, all engineered to exceed expectations in the most demanding conditions on the planet.
