5.0 out of 5 stars. Awesome California Jacket
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Johnny Wishbone from Folsom, CA on Tuesday, February 2, 2016
I'm in northern California. We have extremes if you go looking for them, but generally it's a lot of middle ground in terms of weather.

This jacket is awesome for taking the edge off without being bulky or heavy. It blocks all of the wind, most of the moisture, and yet breaths fairly well.

On my scale, a size medium weighs 8.8 oz. Not the lightest windbreaker out there, but keep in mind, most windbreakers don't have a fuzzy liner. This lightweight jacket is lined and provides way more warmth than you'd ever guess such a compact package could.

I wore it the other day on a day that was supposed to just be windy and gray. But, about 15 minutes out it started to drizzle, and then drizzle turned to rain. While not a rain shell, this jacket performed well. I stayed warm and dry walking in the rain for about 40 minutes. No part of the fabric "wetted out," however the jacket is still new.

Even though many will disagree, I do wish this jacket had side pockets. I never use a zippered breast pocket and consider them mostly for looks. I seldom wear gloves and a side pocket gives me a place to temporarily warm a hand.

With regard to sizing, I'm always torn between a large or medium. My chest is 42 inches and my sleeve length is 35 inches at 5'10" and 175 lbs. The medium fits trim and that's what I wanted. I'm glad I went with a medium. I usually wear this with only a t-shirt or long sleeve t-shirt underneath.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Great value for the price!

Just so you know, I JUST gave this to my husband for Christmas, so it has yet to be tested on the slopes! So far, in keeping with Marmot and their quality reputation, it is well constructed. I will try to remember to update this once it gets used. :-)
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. My favorite jacket

I've been wearing driclime jackets for several years now. I bought this as a spare so I will have one when the current one wears out. It's great to have a weather resistant shell that can breathe.

Bought to use backpacking. Light yet warm. For $35 well worth the money. Havent used in wet weather yet so can't confirm how much water it will shed

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
