5.0 out of 5 stars. Great warm jacket

This is a great warm jacket. It is not the stuff into a stuff-sack type, but puffier, warmer. Good looking, long enough to be comfy at waist. 6 foot, 145lbs. Medium fits perfectly, Large was too big.

This is a very nice down coat, but there are some things not mentioned in the description. First, it is duck down as opposed to goose down. It is still light and warm, but hardly packable. As someone else mentioned, the outer nylon is stiff. I imagine this is a property of the re-cycled nylon which was used. That said, I think it is more wind and water resistant than the more supple types I have had. Also, the fit is a bit snug (I'm 6'4" & 245 lbs). The XXL is fine for me, but doesn't leave much room for layering. There is no interior pocket, and that would have been nice. Finally, the storm flap over the zipper uses snaps which can be a bit difficult to close. Not overly so, but they can be a trifling nuisance. Having said all that, this is a well made garment at a great price, and the fact that Marmot used re-cycled fabrics and re-purposed down only makes it more attractive to me. It is a great value.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. small to medium

I am 5"10" and am relatively slim. In this day and age I know I need to consider size Small even though previously I have always ordered and worn Medium. I did order the Marmot Warm II down parka in Small and it was way too tight. The sleeves were long enough but the jacket was too small. I returned it for my original size, Medium and it fits. So if you wear Medium that would be the size, or Large for Large. There is only one interior pocket for your wallet and two exterior hand/glove pockets but nonetheless the parka will keep you warm in weather 30 degrees or much colder.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Noisy, Not much insulation.

Looks pretty good, but thinner, less down insulation than expected from the photo. Also, the material is stiff -- it sounds like you are wearing a tarp.

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
