They do come with flimsy inserts. Throw those away and get some nice ones. Like other reviewers have said the space for the heels is a just a little bit wider than that of a running shoe. Just be attentive when you tie them at the top.

I am super excited, they are going to be my favorite summer hiking shoes. They are very cushy inside, the soft leather has stretched for excellent like-a-glove fit.
