5.0 out of 5 stars. World classVerified Buyer Reviewed by Disappointed from Tennessee on Thursday, October 5, 2017Perfect fit out-of-the-box. Wear 10D regular shoes ordered 10D. 1st day hiked 4 miles - extremely comfortable & effective. Stiff sole is excellent for mountaineering, but also hiking. Scarpa & virtually all Italian boots are world class. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars. excellent bootsVerified Buyer Reviewed by iggy from Boston on Wednesday, September 27, 2017As most Scarpa products that I've owned, these boots are very well made and comfortable. They're a bit stiff, but not uncomfortable for long hikes. Best for steep rocky terrain. Lucky to find my size on sale on STP.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Solid boots, fits to sizeReviewed by Anonymous from California on Monday, July 24, 2017I initially went with the normal recommendation of buying mountaineering boots half size larger than normal. Didnt go well. My feet slopped around inside the shoe and I knew wearing it on trails would be a disaster. So I ordered my regular size without returning the first one - thinking if it were too tight, I would try the larger one again with thicker hiking socks/insoles or something. Long story short, the second pair seemed to fit perfect. Toe box is roomy as others have noted. Still felt my heel slide a tad compared to my original Asolos that these were replacing. But they seemed to fit much better than the larger boot so I returned the first order (a $6.95 fee for returns - not bad at all.) and took the new pair on a short local hike.
Uphill, the heel (yes, in the smaller boots) started chafing inside the shoe. By the time I got to the top (1.5 miles up), I could sense a welt forming on my right heel from the chafing. Downhill, the heel chafing stopped (I did tighten the lacing but not sure it made a difference). At the very end, my toe crashed into the front of the shoe a couple of times and I ended the hike seriously considering asking STP if could return this pair too.
Fast forward a week, I had the opportunity to hike up Mt Shasta. Without an alternative, I threw these shoes in the trunk with the idea that I would try re-lacing during the drive and see if the shoe felt better or rent a shoe in town. Fast forward a few hours, and I was hiking through the night in these boots with no changes except a careful tightening of the laces, gobs of bodyglide and a short prayer. And they performed AMAZINGLY. The initial part of the hike (this late in the season) was on a dry approach trail - where I zipped through (no these shoes are not too stiff for approaches). The next part up a long steepling snow field with hybrid step-in crampons was quite ok. At points on the really steep parts, I could sense the heel wanting to climb up the shoes but I suspect most shoes would be stretched on 35 degree inclines. Long story short again, after 12.5 hours and a 7300 ft ascent, I stood atop my first fourteener! Downhill, I was similarly apprehensive of my feet sliding forward and kicking the front. But it was just fine. In fact on getting off the snow, I was flying down the trail again.
Overall, I am very happy with the Triolet. After 18 hours, both off and on-snow, with and without crampons, they show nary a sign of wear. And my feet were fine the next day too. These Triolets are here to stay mates!
My current line of thinking is that my feet arches are not as high as the last used to make this shoe - which could explain the slopping around even though the length is right. I am going to try thicker insoles like the Superfeet Green next to see if they improve the fit. Will probably take them into my neighborhood REI for their expert opinion.
STP's Shipping was reasonably quick though it takes them 2 days to actually get the package to the courier. I hope they realize the eagerness with which we await our goodies and ship items faster. The return was painless and automatic. Great company! -
5.0 out of 5 stars. Great 3 season bootsVerified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from Seattle, WA on Monday, July 24, 2017Ordered these boots on sale for spring/summer/fall climbing in the Cascades, Sierras, Colorado, etc. Comfortable out of the box - first trip was a 19 mile R/T climb with 8,000 ft gain. No problems other than a small blister on one foot on the hike out. Performed well on rock and on steep snow with semi-auto crampons. I'm sad they are being discontinued but the new Charmoz should perform equally well. Have hiked many miles since and they are super light and comfy. I have not yet ice climbed (vertical) in them. Wear an 11 mens street shoes and ordered a 45.5 / 11 and 2/3. It is a bit big but with hiking socks it fits perfectly. A 44.5 would have been too small for sure. Decided on these over the Charmoz as the leather may hold up better than the synthetic (?). Overall a great boot.

4.0 out of 5 stars. Solid bootsVerified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from Alaska on Saturday, April 12, 2014I had a pair of Scarpa Charmoz for many years and really enjoyed those boots. Eventually the gore tex liner broke down and they started leaking, and they always seemed a little narrow to me. These Scarpa Triolet boots build on what was great in the Charmoz with a noticeably wider forefoot area and more durable suede panels in the upper. They are not as light as some other alpine boots in this class, and they use the Vibram Mulaz sole which I don't care for much with their very shallow lugs, but the boots are supportive and comfy so far. If you have funny shaped feet you may do better in these than in other, more narrow European offerings. The ankle support is average, and the lacing hardware is not the greatest, but overall a good light alpine boot for wider feet.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Fantastic boots--but still breaking them inReviewed by Anonymous from ABQ, NM on Thursday, March 6, 2014I have another pair of Italian-made hiking boots (Zamberlan 760 Steeps) whose Vibram soles are starting to wear thin. I started researching the re-soling option and also kept my eyes open for a good deal on some replacement boots. When I came across these on sale at STP, I decided to give them a try. This was my first purchase from STP and with shoes/boots it's always a risk buying online. After a couple of phone calls I felt assured that if the boots gave me any problems I could return them within 6 months for a refund or exchange--so I jumped in.
The boots are really nice-looking and obviously VERY well made. They are a technical boot, and probably more than I need for most of my hiking activities. But I really like a very stiff-soled boot and these are definitely that. They are significantly stiffer in the sole than even the Zamberlans--which are definitely a backpacking boot (as opposed to a day-hiker).
So far I've worn them on 3 hikes ranging from 4-6 miles. The first two hikes had me smiling from ear to ear. The boots felt very comfortable and scrambling over rocks or rough hillsides presented no problems at all. The third hike entailed a fair amount of pretty steep trail and after about 1 1/2 hours of steady uphill on a steep grade, I started noticing some chafing/hot spots at the heel. At the top of the climb I took off the boots and relaced them, taking care to get my heel as far back into the boot as I could before cinching down the lower portion of the lacing. (BTW, one really nice feature of these boots is a locking D-ring that allows you to lock down the lower portion of the lacing). This made quite a difference in how the boots felt for the descent on this hike--but it was a descent, so I can't really say whether it solved the heel chafing problem or not. There were no problems on the downhill.
I intend to try these on a few more hikes and I'm really hoping that with a combination of proper lacing and little more break-in time that these work out. As I said they are an overall FANTASTIC boot. They are/were on clearance and sizes were limited, but if you are in the market for some top-quality boots at a super price and you can still get some, I'd highly recommend them.
I hope I don't have to test out STP's return policy on these as I'd love to keep them for years. I'll probably still get the Zamberlans re-soled and I'll have a couple of choices for various hikes.
PS--I love the "mango" (orange) and grey colors. FWIW, the Zamberlans are RED--so I guess I'm a bit of a hiking fashionista ;-).

5.0 out of 5 stars. Guide worthy 3 season bootsReviewed by Elyrodshop from Ely MN on Monday, February 24, 2014I've worn these for 2 days, straight out the box, with 1 mid-weight merino wool sock. 2 hours freezing rain ,18 " of fresh snow 45 mph winds with 4' drifts and temps to zero F.
The rubber remained soft enough to hold on ice covered compacted snow and hard enough to dig in if needed. Scarpa makes a great boot with roomy toe box and secure ankle area. My feet were never chilled and great support all day. I spent almost 20 hours heavy work removing snow drifts and ice jams. Awesome price , awesome boots.
