The jacket is very light and warm, has plenty of pockets and made out of good materials. The hood is well insulated and big enough to fit over a helmet. Also the jacket seems to be pretty windproof,at 15 degrees and wind from 25 to 30 mph I had no problem, would buy it again.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Great Downfill

I haven't taken it out to extreme conditions yet.... but plan on using it when i summit Whitney this April. My size is a smedium.... 150 lbs and 5'6", but the MED actually fit pretty well. I went larger as i plan to wear this jacket over layers while climbing, but with just a tee shirt it isn't over-bearing. Fill is even and very warm.

I bought this jacket for Christmas and got it here at Sierra Trading Post because the price was so much better than other sites. I ended up getting it for 53% off!!! I wanted black but went with a Large Grey because this was the one on sale and I am happy with it. I read reviews all of the time where people haven't really tested the gear well or haven't gotten out in cold environments yet. Well, I bought this jacket specifically for winter snowshoeing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). It will be used as my base camp jacket (while I am not moving and sweating). My friends and I pull toboggans in and camp every year in January or February. Minnesota gets very cold! Our trip has yet to happen this year while I am writing this review so it isn't tested for that but we have been in a cold spell here in central Minnesota and I have had it out ice fishing. The coldest it has been in is -35 F. It does very well and is the warmest jacket I have had to date. Its wind resistance is lacking but I expected that either way. Most down jackets aren't known for wind reistence. I have a shell that I can put on if it is windy enough to penetrate the jacket. One thing I will say is that the hood is pretty large. I read a review from another that said the hood was too big and I agree with that assessment. I am not worried about it because my other layers all have hoods but it would be nice to have a more functional hood. If I wear a brimmed hat with it, it won't fall down near my eyes so I will make it work if I need it. Overall I am very happy with Marmot in general and this product has been great!! Very warm!!!

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
