5.0 out of 5 stars. Perfect for me
Reviewed by Cowgal from Washington, the state on Tuesday, March 14, 2017
I bought this to replace a jacket with synthetic insulation. I have always found down to be warmer, but living in Seattle, warmth and wet protection matter and until recently, synthetic was still the only way to go. This is perfect and it is WARM, amazingly warm for the weight. I wanted a hood, so I could use it under my ski jacket if needed (usually it isn't that cold here, but was this year) and it fits well under my helmet. I generally wear a 4 to 6 and the size small is perfect, a bit roomy (but not too, I have wider shoulders but am lean in the stomach and hip area), it can accommodate a thicker base layer. This jacket is ripstop fabric with a knit inner layer, it is thinner than Mountain Hardware's non-rip stop Stretchdown jacket. There is a bungee cinch at the jacket's hem but no bungee cinch for the hood, I find when the jacket is zipped up the hood's fit is nice and close. The RS jacket has its own stuff sack pocket (along with a lot of practical inside pockets) so it is an option for back packing. I was surprised at how warm this jacket is for its weight how well it kept the wind at bay the first time I wore it. I haven't tested it on the slopes yet but it will make a nice addition to my jacket arsenal, alone or layered under another jacket as needed. The red color is more of a coral red, which is just what I wanted, with the inner knit fabric being a coral pinkish color, again, just what I wanted. In short, perfect, for me!

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars. No room for chest, delivered with stains
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Red Rover from Boston on Thursday, January 25, 2018
I sent a rather scathing message to Mountain Hardware after I received my jacket. I am sending this back. The cut of the coat is flattering, if you don't intend to move your arms around, and if you are a flat chested woman. I wear a B/C cup bra. I ordered a size medium because the measurements on the small sounded likely to be too tight on me. This coat looks borderline too big for me. However, when I put this jacket on, first thing I encountered was that there isn't room in the coat to reach my arms backwards - like one might do to say, hold on to something, or put on a backpack. Doing so strains the material across the chest. There is plenty of room across the back at this size for me to reach my arms forward without any trouble, but there is no accounting for a woman's chest in this coat. I was further displeased with this item because 1) the color is actually much more like pool water than what is depicted, and 2) the item arrived with stains on it - damaged. So really poor job from Mountain Hardware (now owned by Colombia, I have learned) and poor job by Sierra Trading Post - sending a damaged product.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Warm and teen approved

This was purchased for a teen that is very picky. She loved the color and the warmth. I ordered another jacket by this company last year that I thought this was like- wrong. The fabric is heavier (not as see thru) which contributes to it being more bulky that the other one. It may be pack-able but it does not stow in an interior pocket like the other and does not fit well into a backpack with all school essentials. That said, if not making a comparison to another product it is a very nice item. It does run on the more fitted/smaller side. My daughter is a size (5/7) and the medium fit her and allows her to put a sweatshirt under it. Thumbs up!

It has taken 4 months to find a good down jacket that fits and is flattering. STP is always great in its speed and customer service (I had to return a couple of other jackets in my quest)
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Lightweight but very warm
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from South Carolina on Thursday, January 18, 2018
This jacket, despite its specs, really surprised me. When I first took it out of the box and tried it on I could not believe how lightweight and thin it was. All of my warmest coats have been quick bulky and heavy. Even though Mountain Hardwear is a reputable brand I did have my doubts as to how warm this jacket would be. I had been looking for something warm, particularly for days when I am out trail riding for hours in the winter when it dips into the 20s and 30s. This jacket exceeded my expectations, which is saying something coming from someone who is perpetually cold. I knew I had a winner when I climbed into my car on 30-degree day and drove around for almost 45 minutes before I realized I didn't have the heat on.

I just wore this snow shoeing and it was warm, light and quiet. The hood fit well and the sleeves are nice and long, haven't worn it in the wet yet but really like it
